Chakki ri shaak
Chakki ri shaak is curry recipe made from wheat flour dumplings. It is popular in Jodhpur region in Rajasthan. Traditionally chakki ki sabji or chakki ri shaak has been made in Malva region in central India.
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 4 onions, chopped
- 1 cup curd, whisked
- 4 tomatoes
- 2 green chillies
- 1 piece ginger, inch long, grated
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon coriander seed powder
- 1/3 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 2 dry red chillies
- 1/2 teaspoon kasuri methi
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Mix flour with salt and knead into smooth dough.
- Soak the dough in water for 30 minutes. Remove the starchy layer of dough by washing it with water.
- Repeat soaking dough in water and cleaning with water.
- Steam the dough in a steamer.
- Cut into desired shape and deep fry in oil till golden brown shapes (chakki) is formed.
- Blend tomatoes, onions, chillies, ginger and garlic to fine paste. Keep aside.
- Heat oil. Splutter cumin seeds and dry red chillies. Add and roast onion paste.
- Add spice powders - turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala, coriander seed powder and kasuri methi.
- Add curd. Adjust taste with salt and consistency with water.
- Add chakki pieces. Mix well.
- Garnish with coriander leaves.
- Serve Chakki ki shaak hot along with roti
