Avarekalu Gojju
Avarekalu Gojju is super spicy hyacinth beans curry made in Karnataka. Avarekalu / Hyacinth beans are common in winters when this recipe is generally made.

Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 clove
- 1 cinnamon stick, inch long
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1 potato, boiled and cubed
- 1 cup boiled Avarekalu / hyacinth beans
For masala paste
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 cup fresh grated coconut, cuttings
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 tomatoes, cut
- 2 teaspoons jeera
- 2 teaspoons chana dal
- 2 teaspoons coriander seeds
- 2 dried red chillies
- 1 teaspoon amchur / dry mango powder
- 1/4 teaspoon khas khas / poppy seeds
- Salt, to taste
- 1/2 cup coriander leaves
Instructions
- Dry roast cumin seeds, coriander seeds, dry red chillies, chana dal.
- Grind all masala ingredients to smooth paste with little water. Keep aside.
- Heat oil. Splutter mustard seeds, clove and cinnamon stick. Saute.
- Add onions and fry till colour changes.
- Add tomatoes and potatoes. Mix well and cook for a minute.
- Add beans and masala paste. Mix well.
- Adjust consistency with water. Adjust taste with salt.
- Serve Avarekalu gojju hot with steamed rice.
